Making your destination wedding the perfect getaway!

In this day and age, many brides and grooms are deciding to host their wedding in one of their dream locations – some with the aim of going against the norm, some for family purposes and some for the plain old beauty of the venue.

So how do you plan a destination wedding and please everyone and yourself? Ane du Preez, Banqueting Manager at Granny Mouse Country House & Spa gives us a few tips on how to make this process flow smoothly.

Her advice is to, first; determine your budget, how many people you can invite, what menu you would like and how much accommodation you will need for close family. “Granny Mouse offers a great menu for weddings with Executive Chef Shaun Dampies custom-making each request to suit your budget and needs. These great menues leave tummies full, guests happy and allow the rest of the evening or day’s events to roll out without a hitch,” she says.

Apart from the actual planning of the details of the wedding such as décor and flowers, accommodation should be first on the list if you expect your guests to travel and share in your special day. If you are having a small group of guests under 80 people including the bride and groom, Granny Mouse as a destination wedding venue can offer you 32 hotel rooms, which can sleep up to 64 people.  “Our 32 rooms cater for singles, couples and families, and range from garden rooms with garden views, deluxe rooms with river views” she adds.

Another accommodation option is the Farmhouse, situated on the 22 hectare Oakleigh Farm, approximately 900m from the main Granny Mouse Hotel and is the hotel’s first official self-catering option, sleeping a maximum of 12 guests.

If your wedding guest list is larger than 80 people, then it is pertinent that you give each family a list of accommodation venues around the area for them to book in advance so that there is no conflict about driving home late.

Granny Mouse Country House and Spa also provides the bride and groom with various packages for their special day as they understand that the details can sometime be overlooked when having to think about so much at once. “Apart from our wide range of wedding packages on offer, Granny Mouse also has a Honeymoon package that includes accommodation for the bridal couple in one of the Deluxe “honeymoon” rooms, bed & breakfast, a private 3 course dinner, fruit platter with champagne as well as a 15 minute Ukhulumbe head massage for two at the Granny Mouse spa that is on site,” Du Preez adds.
